St. Tammany Parish Government Officials Addressing Storm Damage
Pat Brister, St. Tammany Parish President, her administration and emergency operations personnel are currently responding to storm-impacted areas following the overnight landfall of Tropical Storm Olga.
“I have spoken with officials from our power companies, and they have assured me that they are working as quickly as possible to restore power to their customers. Our personnel are on the ground working to remove debris, restore power to our utility facilities and monitoring river levels. We are working in conjunction with local municipalities, State agencies and the public to ensure that services are back as safely and as soon as possible. We will update information as it becomes available,” said Pat Brister, St. Tammany Parish President. “Any resident who sees a dangerous situation that needs to be addressed, please call the non-emergency dispatch line of your local police department, or the non-emergency dispatch line of the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office.”
- Tammany Utilities (TU) crews who were on stand-by, were activated early this morning to bring generators to well pumps to ensure continuity of water service to Tammany Utilities customers. They are working to provide gas-driven pumps to lift stations in certain areas, as many lift stations were left without power from the storm. TU customers in the Goodbee, Madisonville and Covington areas are asked to conserve water if they can to ease the burden on the lift stations without power. TU customers in water systems with multiple wells, may notice lower water pressure as some wells may be without power, and the remaining powered wells are maintaining system pressure. - Public Works crews who were on stand-by were activated early this morning at daybreak to begin removing downed trees, power poles, and debris blocking roadways. Approximately six, two to three man crews are currently working. Crews have removed approximately 30 trees from multiple roads in the Covington, Abita Springs, Bush, Talisheek, Mandeville and Hickory areas. In addition, crews assisted the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development in removing trees. Crews are waiting to remove trees from several locations that are entangled in power lines. The crews will work with power providers (Cleco, WST or Entergy) to safely remove the trees once power lines are removed. Residents who need to report trees blocking the road should call the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office non-emergency line at: 985-898-2338. The Sheriff’s Office will relay the message to Public Works crews.
- Tammany Trace crews have been out since daybreak assessing downed trees and power outages on the Tammany Trace. The Lacombe Drawbridge is currently in the up position because of a power outage. Trace patrons must turn around when they get to the bridge. There are numerous trees and considerable debris in several areas along the Trace. Crews are removing the debris as fast as possible. Trace patrons should use caution and be mindful of crews working to remove the debris.
- St. Tammany Parish Government engineers continue to monitor river gauges.
- CLECO, Washington St. Tammany Electric and Entergy are reporting power outages throughout St. Tammany, which they are working to restore.
- The City of Mandeville is reporting that the Lakefront is closed to traffic.
- Parish officials will continue to monitor the weather situation in conjunction with the National Weather Service.
