St. Tammany Parish Government Seeking Children’s Organization to Operate at Koop Drive Facility

St. Tammany Parish Government will seek proposals from children-focused organizations to operate the Kids Town building near the Kids Connection Playground on Koop Drive.

The Request for Proposals will be opened in the end of March, with hopes of welcoming in the new organization on July 1. The lease with the current tenant, the Children’s Museum of St. Tammany, will expire on June 30 and will not be renewed, due to unpaid rent from 2022-2024. Rent was waived during the pandemic.

“This facility has been and will always be a safe place for the children of St. Tammany to learn and grow,” said Parish President Mike Cooper. “We look forward to working together with the Tammany Trace Foundation to find the next organization to operate within Kids Town, offering greatly needed child-focused services in St. Tammany.”

The Tammany Trace Foundation raised funds and built Kids Town and the Kids Konnection Playground, in addition to hosting the annual Holiday of Lights celebration, which brings thousands of families to Koop Drive every year. Kids Town was donated to St. Tammany Parish Government in 2021.

“The Tammany Trace Foundation’s top priority is preserving the Trace and offering services and a location for our youth to learn and have fun,” said Bruce Wainer, head of the Tammany Trace Foundation. “We are confident that our next tenant will work with us to put the children first.”
