MESSAGE FROM THE PARISH PRESIDENT, NOVEMBER 10, 2021

Good morning,

One hundred and three years ago tomorrow, our nation ended the “war to end all wars” in World War I.

The veterans of WWI were initially honored on Armistice Day, November 11, which later became Veterans Day, to honor all veterans in our nation’s history.

Tomorrow, we will honor our family members, friends and neighbors who left their families and normal lives to protect our country, constitution and freedom. St. Tammany Parish has one of the largest veteran populations on the Gulf Coast, with roughly 39,000 veterans residing as our neighbors. While there is not a tribute or celebration significant enough to compare to their devotion and sacrifice, we should take every chance to thank our veterans.

There will be various Veterans Day ceremonies in St. Tammany Parish tomorrow, including at the St. Tammany Justice Center at 10 a.m., sponsored by the Robert H. Burns American Legion Post 16, and at the Pontchartrain Yacht Club in Mandeville at 1 p.m.

If you are looking for avenues to provide for veterans in St. Tammany, consider the Hero’s Farewell project, a partnership with St. Tammany Veterans Foundation, Inc and myself.  Hero’s Farewell is aiming to complete the vision of the Southeast Louisiana Veteran’s Cemetery and to honor our fallen heroes and their families.  Hero’s Farewell will purchase items such as tents, chairs, tables, and other amenities for funeral services as well as provide funding for landscaping, beautification and many more services. Saturday is a significant day for the future of St. Tammany Parish. The voters of St. Tammany will cast their ballots on four constitutional amendments, four millage renewals for our public school system, and a criminal justice sales tax proposition, in addition to a handful of local jurisdiction items.

Please encourage your friends and family to study all items on the ballot before making an informed decision on Saturday, November 13.  If you wish to learn more about the criminal justice sales tax proposition, you may do so by watching an educational video on our Facebook page here.
