PRESIDENT MIKE COOPER ANNOUNCES DEBRIS PICKUP IN PRIVATE ST. TAMMANY SUBDIVISIONS

St. Tammany Parish President Mike Cooper announces the inclusion of private subdivisions for debris pickup.  President Cooper and local officials met virtually with FEMA, federal and state officials to discuss the necessary guidelines for debris pickup in private subdivisions and neighborhoods.

St. Tammany Parish Government will be sending a letter to the responsible party for roadways in gated neighborhoods with documentation to be completed and returned so that debris pickup may begin. Ungated neighborhoods with private streets will be handled in the same manner as public roadways.

“This is a great step as we move St. Tammany forward in Hurricane Ida recovery efforts,” said President Cooper. “I want to thank my administration, Parish Council, and our state and federal legislative delegation who made the inclusion of debris removal in our private neighborhoods a reality by appealing to the federal government. While it may take some time to get all debris picked up, we can let our neighbors rest assured that it will get removed.”

St. Tammany Parish Government was the lead agency that actively sought FEMA’s approval, which is required in order to pick up debris along private streets and roadways.

Debris pickup on public Parish roadways began on September 8.
