Public Comment for Unified Development Code Rewrite Opens, President Cooper Announces

President Mike Cooper is encouraging citizens to provide feedback on the newly rewritten Unified Development Code (UDC), a modernization of development guidelines, as the public comment period has opened.

“Ensuring a more resilient, sustainable future for St. Tammany, with our citizens’ values in mind, is at the forefront of my administration,” said Cooper. “Many of the challenges that we experience today are due to the outdated current development code. The modernization of the UDC clarifies development standards and offsets the impacts of proposed construction, while guiding tree preservation, land clearing and subdivision review procedures.”

The UDC is a combination of traditional land use and subdivision regulations, including design guidelines and water management standards that guide development projects and permitting requirements. The modernized code will consolidate and simplify rules for zoning, land use, permitting, subdivision regulations, water management, tree preservation and other development guidelines.

The current development standards and code were written in 2010 and do not meet the needs of development today, or for the future of St. Tammany.
